How to behave on hiking trails
31.05.2025
The High Tatras and their hiking trails are among the greatest natural treasures of Slovakia. The beauty of the Tatra nature attracts thousands of tourists every year who come to enjoy the fresh air, stunning views, and the tranquility of the forest. However, in order to preserve these exceptional places for future generations, it is important to behave responsibly and considerately.
If you're planning a hike, don't forget to follow these basic rules:
Stay on marked trails – protect the fragile nature of the Tatras
Do not disturb wildlife – observe animals from a safe distance
Do not damage flora or fauna – plants and animals belong in nature, not in your backpack
Take your trash with you – keep trails and rest areas clean
Respect other hikers – be tolerant, greet others, and follow hiking etiquette
Be prepared – check the weather forecast, wear suitable footwear, and don’t forget enough water and food
Follow the instructions of mountain rescue services and information signs
If we all follow these simple rules, the High Tatras will remain a beautiful place that brings joy and peace to all nature lovers.
